Hrithik Roshan's very own F1 ride

Hrithik Roshan's very own F1 ride
Hrithik Roshan is set for some hot wheel action now. In his new film Bang Bang co-starring Katrina Kaif, the superstar gets behind the wheel of a swanky Formula 1 sports car for some cool stunts. This is a first of sorts for Hindi cinema.
Director Siddharth Anand is leaving no stone unturned to make the action comedy Bang Bang a feast for those who dig the adrenaline rush. The lavishly shot official remake of the Hollywood hit Knight And Day that starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz is being touted as one of Bollywood's sleekest thrillers ever.
To give the film's action some novelty, Hrithik will be seen driving an F1 car on the streets of Abu Dhabi in a chase sequence. Notably, Knight And Day had no such scene. Reports suggest Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh was specially roped in to work on the screenplay of Bang Bang to tweak the action quotient of the original storyline.

Till now, the use of a Formula 1 racing car for action scenes has been unheard of in Bollywood films. "It is the best adrenaline rush I have ever experienced. To experience it amidst the visually stunning and smooth roads of Abu Dhabi was just incredible. What a rush!" said Hrithik.
Katrina, who plays an action junkie named Harleen Sahni, too, gets to perform a few daring stunts in the film. After Ek Tha Tiger, this is Katrina's second attempt at on-screen stunts. The trailer of the film released a few weeks ago received a mammoth response from the audience, and shows both Hrithik and Katrina engaged in some very innovative stunts.
The film marks the returns of the two stars together after their hit pairing in Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Bang Bang got delayed owing to a brain injury Hrithik sustained while shooting an action scene for the film and an ensuing complicated surgery.
The big-budget extravaganza is now set for a Gandhi Jayanti release.

New Delhi: When undoubtedly the most beautiful woman on earth decides to walk down the aisle with the most good-looking male, girls ever saw—the outcome is two stunning personalities taking the world by storm. There is no prize for guessing that we are talking about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Yes, quite literally, the two rocked the look on their secret wedding day.
Much has been written about the hush-hush wedding ceremony of Brangelina (as they are fondly called) in France, but what has lately become the talk of the town, is Angelina's wedding day dress. The 'Maleficent' actress in the cover of 'People' magazine is seen in her wedding gown, and many surely will skip a heart beat.
Interestingly, it's not just the Versace label that's garnering attention from the media worldwide but also the fact that this talented designer used their children's drawings and put them in the dress. Yes, innovative no? Well, Luigi has reportedly made excellent use of the designs drawn by Brangelina's kids and it has been made an intricate design pattern on the dress.Reports suggest that Jolie's dress was designed by none other than ace designer Atelier Versace's Luigi Massi, who is quite pally with the couple. According to People magazine, Jolie in an interview said that Luigi is more of family to them and no one else could ever design her wedding gown. The couple has also featured in the cover of 'Hello' magazine, where Jolie is seen in her super white wedding gown and in the inset, we can see the couple lock lips as man and wife.
Jolie also said in that interview that Luigi understands the kids and cares about them, therefore, this idea of clubbing the kids' art into his own designer perfection came out.
Well, all we can say is that—whatever the power couple Brangelina decides to do, it has to be a class apart. In this case, they set the bar too high!

New Delhi: The super energetic Bollywood's rising star, Ranveer Singh is truly a man of words. The 'Ram-Leela' actor has never really shied away from expressing his love and gratitude towards his favourite filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The reports this time suggest that like his mentor, Ranveer too will take a pay cut for SLB's magnum opus 'Bajirao Mastani'.
After this news, we can safely say, this lad is here to stay for long, as he is learning the art from the master himself. Great going RanveeAccording to a leading daily, the actor will reportedly cut his price and rather take share in the film's profits. Incidentally, SLB didn't charge a penny for 'Ram-Leela' from the studios, but instead took part in the profit-sharing ratio of the film.

How much has the ice bucket challenge achieved?

How much has the ice bucket challenge achieved?

Montage of ice bucket challenges
The media is reaching saturation point in its coverage of the ice bucket challenge. But what has actually been achieved?
The format is simple - somebody has water, often full of ice cubes, dumped over their head. They then nominate people they know to undertake the same challenge.
There have been in excess of 2.4 million ice bucket-related videos posted on Facebook, and 28 million people have uploaded, commented on or liked ice bucket-related posts.
On image sharing website Instagram there have been 3.7 million videos uploaded with the hashtags #ALSicebucketchallenge and #icebucketchallenge. Justin Bieber's has been the most popular - with about one million "likes".
The stunt is typically intended to raise money and awareness for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association. Its British equivalent, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, has also benefited.
From 29 July to 28 August this year ALS received $98.2m - compared with $2.7m donated during the same period last year.
Pre-ice bucket, the MND Association would receive on average £200,000 a week in donations. From 22 to 29 August, it received £2.7m.
Frankie Dettori and Clare Balding do the ice bucket challengeFrankie Dettori and Clare Balding are among many celebrities to undergo the challenge
In the UK, other charities have benefited with Macmillan Cancer Support raising £3m from challenges. Water Aid has seen a spike in donations, including £47,000 in one day - 50% higher than it ever received in a single day before. The money came in part from people bemoaning the water wasted in the challenges.
But the other purpose of the campaign has been in raising awareness.
"Do you think Anna Wintour, Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham were talking about ALS a few months ago? No, I very much doubt it," says Shannon Murray, an actor, writer and disability rights campaigner.
Graph charts the poularity of search terms "ice bucket challenge", "ALS" and "MND"
"It's been very celebrity-orientated and it plays into our culture of putting everything about ourselves out there on social media. Some people have chosen to do it in a bikini, some have chosen white T-shirts, some people have obviously done it to raise their profile and that's up to them. Personally it makes me a bit uncomfortable, but actually the bottom line is that people weren't talking about MND two months ago, and now they are."
A crude measurement can be found in Google searches. Searches for both ALS and Lou Gehrig's Disease, an alternative name in the US, rose sharply from 13 August to a peak on 21 August. Since then they have been declining. The term MND rose sharply from 20 August, reaching a peak on 26 August.
From 1 August to 27 August this year, the ALS Wikipedia page had 2,717,754 views. This compared with the 1,662,842 people who had visited the page during the whole of the preceding 12 months, according to data company Dataviz.
Twitter graphic
Average daily visits to the ALS association website were about 17,500 before the ice bucket challenge, compared with the peak of 4.5 million visits on 20 August (of which 83% were new to the site). During the past month there have been about 30 million visitors in total.
Average daily website visits to the MND association have risen from 1,400 to 153,000 on its biggest day - 26 August.
And as of 29 August the ice bucket challenge had 4,483,726 Twitter mentions. ALS Twitter followers had increased from 8,975 in early July to 21,100, while MND had over 6,000 new followers.
So it's probably safe to say that awareness has been increased.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Stephen Hawking
  • Also known as motor neurone disease, and - in the US - Lou Gehrig's disease, after famous baseball player who died from the disease
  • Rare condition where parts of the nervous system become damaged, causing progressive weakness, usually with muscle wasting
  • Occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones stop working properly; as condition progresses, sufferers find basic activities such as walking, speaking, swallowing and breathing increasingly difficult to do
  • Life expectancy for about half of those with ALS is three to four years from start of diagnosis, but some can live 10 years or longer - Prof Stephen Hawking (pictured) has had ALS for 51 years
line
But there has been cynicism, particularly about the fundraising element. It's been pointed out that just one cause is benefiting for the most part. And some argue that donations from ordinary people may result in them reducing their giving to other causes.
In other words, our mental budget for charity is finite.
And not everyone donates. In several versions of the challenge, if someone goes under the ice bucket they do not have to donate. Or they make a lesser donation if the challenge is accepted, and the full $100 only if they refuse the challenge, as Barack Obama and some others have.
And what about the millionaires and even billionaires who have been at the forefront of the craze? Should Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates - who all have wealth measured in the billions - still be giving just $100. They have in most cases not made public their donations. Charlie Sheen is a notable example of a celebrity who has - he donated $10,000.
There has been criticism. Daily Telegraph journalist Willard Foxton described the challenge as "a middle-class wet T-shirt contest for armchair clicktivists". Bloomberg writer Leonid Bershidsky called it a "narcissist's bonanza".
But while the nature of the celebrity involvement can sometimes lead to raised eyebrows, most have not questioned the wider merits of the cause.
"I have had MND for 10 years now and for anyone affected by this disease the ice bucket challenge has been the most wonderful phenomenon," says Euan MacDonald, the founder of Euan's Guide, a website that features information and reviews about disabled access around the UK.
Motor Neurone sufferer Euan does the ice bucket challengeEuan MacDonald, who has MND, has done the challenge
"It is rare for MND to get this much support and I can only be grateful to those who have taken part. Selfies and social media being used for charitable causes are no bad thing. It is worth looking at the ends not the means and for people facing this brutal disease it has given a bit more hope and a spring in our step."
It has comfortably been the quickest spreading charity phenomenon on social media. That spread has been so quick that finding the genesis of the challenge is not easy.
Some believe it grew out of a similar "Cold Water Challenge" in North America from last year. And it has been widely reported that a golfer in Florida was the first to undertake the challenge and link it to ALS, on 15 July this year. On 12 August Justin Timberlake's challenge appears to have been a major driver.
Man takes ice bucket challenge
"No one at ALS or MND sat down and planned this, it wasn't their idea, it's something that has happened to them because of social media and the internet", says Joe Saxton, director of not for profit communications company Nfpsynergy and the former chair of the Institute of Fundraising.
"Social media is extraordinarily powerful for charities but it's not something they can particularly control - campaigns like this are always a bonus."
It's not without precedent in the organic nature of its growth.
In March, #nomakeupselfie saw women posting barefaced pictures of themselves online while also donating to charity. Cancer Research UK, which did not start the campaign, raised £8m in six days and had 221,488 mentions on Twitter.
"Social media is about friends talking to friends," adds Saxton. "It's become a really important part of running a charity and fundraising.
"Not everyone is going to donate - that's a shame. Not everyone who did donate will donate again, that's to be expected. But the huge amount of extra money and publicity means it's the charities that are benefiting."
The ice bucket challenge may soon have run its course, but the lesson it provides about the nature of 21st Century charity will live on.

A passer-by had spotted the machine gun on a desk inside the house.

Game of Thrones swordsman joins Star Wars film

Game of Thrones swordsman joins Star Wars film

Miltos YerolemouActor Miltos Yerolemou, best known for his role in the first series of fantasy drama Game of Thrones, has joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
He played expert and athletic swordsman Syrio Forel in Thrones and has taken on several other parts which involve sword fighting during his career.
His extensive experience will inevitably lead to speculation that he may use a lightsabre in the film.
However, his character in Star Wars is not thought to be a major one.
Yerolemou has appeared on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and has recently been filming a role in a BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel's booker prize winning novel Wolf Hall.
He is the latest member of the Game of Thrones cast to join Star Wars. In June it was announced that Gwendoline Christie who plays Brienne of Tarth would have a role in the next instalment of the sci-fi saga.
Lucasfilm declined to comment on Yerolemou's casting.
Star Wars: Episode VII has recently resumed filming at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire after a hiatus of a few weeks following an on-set accident where Harrison Ford, who plays Han Solo, broke his leg.
As well as Ford, Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher - Princess Leia - have returned to reprise their roles from the original trilogy.
They are joined by newcomers including British actors Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in December 2015.

The daughter of Joan Rivers has said the family are keeping their "fingers crossed" as the comedian and TV host recovers from a cardiac arrest.
The 81-year-old was taken to New York's Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday after her breathing stopped during a vocal cord procedure at a clinic.
Melissa Rivers also thanked people for their "continued love and support" in a statement released by the hospital.
She described her mother's condition as "serious" on Friday.
Since then there has been no update, although the New York Daily News has reported that Doctors have begun bringing Rivers out of her medically induced coma, which is likely to take until Tuesday.
Mother and daughter appear in reality show Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? while Joan is also the outspoken host of Fashion Police on the E! Network, turning her acerbic wit on the fashion faux pas of Hollywood stars.
'Every prayer counts'
Celebrities including comedian Sarah Silverman and Donald Trumphave taken to Twitter to send their best wishes for her recovery,
One of her Fashion Police co-hosts Kelly Osbourne tweeted: "4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight!"
She added: "I encourage U 2 do the same 4 Joan Rivers my grandma! #inconsolable."
Their co-presenter Giuliana Rancic wrote: "Praying for Joan Rivers and Mel Rivers. Even though Joan's the strongest woman I know, every single prayer counts. I love you, Joan."
